New Live Interactive Tutoring Television Series...

SCIENCE LIVE!

WDMC-TV Channel 25 and the Department of Instruction are announcing a new live interactive tutoring television series entitled Science Live! This program is designed to assist students and parents with an in-home interactive tutoring program originating and utilizing the Yonkers Public School's Educational Access Channel 25 WDMC-TV. The need for a district-wide tutoring program arises out of the increased emphasis on regents level courses as requirements for graduation. As a result, increasing information for parents and providing additional instruction and assistance for students are critical components in achieving student success.

(click on the picture to download the intro) Similar to the " Regents Review Live!" television series, which has received tremendous positive audience response, these television programs originate live from the WDMC-TV studios located at Roosevelt High School. Interaction is provided by direct telephone calls to the instructor and responses to questions will be made available to the audience at large. Callers will be able to speak directly to the instructor who will wear a telephone type headset. The instructors then relay the question asked to the audience and follow up with remarks. The lessons and topics follow the regular classroom curriculum as closely as possible. To further the potential use of the programs, principals and department representatives can make videotapes available for use by substitute teachers in the classroom. Science, specifically Regents Earth Science and Regents Biology, are the subject area covered in the programs.

The programs are being produced by Gene Fiorot, the Station Director of WDMC-TV Channel 25 and the Staff and Students of the Television Production Magnet Program at Roosevelt High School in collaboration with Yonkers Public School's Director of Instruction, Marie Elena Liotta, Ron Schick the Coordinator of Science and Mathematics, and Television Teachers, Marilyn Gallagher, Saunders Trades and Technical High School, Francis A. Gentile, Lincolh High School and Robert Raftery, Museum Junior High School.

The live telecasts will be broadcast at 3:30 PM Thursdays beginning on March 4th and will continue until June 12th. The programs will also be repeated at other times during the week. Please consult the Channel 25 programming schedule for times and dates.
