Superintendent's Forum is hosted by the Superintendent of the Yonkers Public Schools, Reginald F. Marra. The series, which is in its third year of production, features educational topics and issues. The series scope includes national, state, and local levels, especially issues having to do with the Yonkers Public Schools. Guests include experts in the field of education along with administrators, teachers, and students from the Yonkers Public Schools. The program airs weekly.
About the Host
Reginald F. Marra is the Superintendent of the Yonkers Public Schools. He has served the Yonkers schools for over thirty years. In 1963, Mr. Marra began his career as a Teacher and later became a Guidance Counselor. Since 1970, Mr. Marra has served in a variety of administrative positions, including Administrative Assistant, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Occupational Education, and Special Assistant to the Superintendent for Legislation. In 1987, he was named Deputy Superintendent, a position he held until his appointment as Superintendent of Schools in November, 1993.
Mr. Marra is a member of several educational organizations which include the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the New York State Council for School Superintendents (NYSCOSS). His article, "maintaining a Positive Environment: How Schools Do It", appeared in the Westchester/Putnam/Rockland Association for Counseling and Development (WPRACD) periodical.
In addition to his career in education, Mr. Marra is highly active in his community. From 1979 to 1989, he served as Mayor of the Village of Irvington and held a number of positions, including President of the Executive Board of Westchester County Village Officials. Mr. Marra has also been involved with several organizaiton dedicated to serving the needs of young people, including the Hudson Valley Day Care Center and the Irvingon Jobs for Youth Program. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dobbs Ferry Hospital.
Mr. Marra attended public schools in Hastings and went on to recieve his B.S. in Secondary Education from the State University of New York at Oswego. He completed his M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Manhattan College and continued his studies in education at various universities, including Fordham University.
